All 56 images are by James H Crockwell. a prominent Utah mining photographer in the 19th century. Additionally, someone, presumably the original owner one Tom Cupit Jr., who has signed his name and the year 1885 to the title page, has added two additional photographs at the rear : "Ontario Mine #3, Parleys Park by C.R. Savage, Salt Lake" an 5"x8" albumen and, Marsac Mill, Park City Utah 1887 by C.R. Savage , 5"x 8" albumen. Total of 58 albumen photographs
56 by Crockwell, published in the album, and two fugitive C.R. Savage Park City mining photos, added at the rear. Almost all of the views have ink and pencil manuscript notations in the margins identifying the numerous Park City mines and mills, as well as identifying various buildings and locales in and around greater Park City. Additionally, almost all of the individual people in the photographs are identified by name as well, and include such Park City luminaries as Dr. L.E. LeCompte, Thomas Kearns, David Keith, R.C. Chambers, Jack Kearns, and many others. The famed Cornish pump is included in one shot, and there are a handful of images from excursion down to Midway and the hot pots there, as well as over Guardsman's Pass into Big Cottonwood Canyon. The photographer James Crockwell was known for his mining views which he assembled into real photo albumen booklets like this one, as well as printed booklets as well. Albums have been scene from Park City, Bingham, Mercur and the Comstock Lode near Virginia City. All are exceptionally scarce. The covers to the album are worn and faded and the binding is coming loose. Additional1y, the albumen photographs themselves are somewhat warped due to being bound back to back on the stiff album pages. The cloth spine is largely deteriorated. The images themselves are all in excellent condition, have rich tones and are clean and sharp.
