Bread-slicing Machine
Description
An account of the resource
For a short time in 1943, U.S. officials imposed a short-lived ban on commercially sliced bread as a way to conserve food reserves during WWII. Had the kitchen staff personally cut off a slice of bread for every person they prepared a meal for, this would take a great deal of time. This photo shows a bread-slicing machine, used by the staff, to cut a whole loaf of bread at one time.
