<text>The scene in this window portrays the genesis of life found on Earth. Among the planet’s first inhabitants were bacteria. This life-form is represented in the lower-central section of the window by blue-green cyanobacteria, a phylum of bacteria that obtains energy through photosynthesis and is thought to have helped in converting the early reducing atmosphere into an oxidizing zone. Another early inhabitant is the ammonite, an extinct ancestor of today’s cephalopods, depicted by the window’s artists as a fossil in the lower-right corner. Also, a motif found throughout Roots of Knowledge, introduced in this window, is that of the DNA double helix.</text>
